I need to watch more Barnett as well because I'm still convinced that's what the pick will be.

Here's a scouting video for Davis. I agree with the narrator on all points.

I'm not worried about Hooker's scheme fit. He's either going to get better at run support, or the scheme will be tweaked to suit his strengths. I'm confident Rivera will either coach him up or make the adjustment as needed. I'm much more concerned about needing two major surgeries after only one season of ball. Does that mean he's going to be injury plagued? I think a good injury plagued player is worse for a team than a bad player. Teams are typically quicker to move on from a bad player than they are from someone who shows promise but can't stay on the field. I agree with you that Adams is a better prospect, and if both were available I'd certainly take Adams, but I'd be ok with Hooker also. I'd just be nervous about the injury situation.

I agree that there is a certain amount of political capital you lose by drafting either a corner or a WR. I think it's certainly worse for WR because while few would blame him for drafting Benjamin, there was a lot of head scratching when he traded up to get Funchess. However with corner you can make a legitimate case that modern NFL teams need 3 good corners since you run nickel or dime 60% of the time or more. I guess we'll see if he's serious about drafting BPA.

When I've watched Allen, I don't see the lightning quick speed to set the edge and turn the corner that elite 4-3 DE's have. Now, that being said, he would still be our best DE if we drafted him and used him in that role, but that's more an indictment of our ends than an endorsement of his skillset. He has just a bananas first step and great power, and finishes the play. Vernon Butler as comparison also has a great first step and good power, but has trouble finishing.

Out of the shit left tackles in this draft, I do think Cam Robinson is the best prospect. If you put on the tape of him vs Myles Garrett and Derek Barnett he holds his own. He's got the build and the athleticism you want in a LT, and can maul in the run game. I think he loses focus sometimes or maybe isn't as cerebral as you would want, because there is tape out there where he gets owned by inferior players or is out of position.

That being said, no fucking way would I take him at 8. I'd take him with the second rounder and hope we can coach him up.

You don't really need that at LDE, though, just RDE. At LDE he'd be a superior version of prime Charles Johnson with the strength to hold the point and the agility to exploit openings.

Yeah I agree with you. And there's nothing to say that over time he can't get quicker off the edge and become that elite 4-3 end. Like I said, regardless you have to take that pick if he falls in your lap. It would take a number of really stupid teams for that to happen though.

It could be worse. I see a lot of mocks where Carolina takes Taco or Cam Robinson. Barnett should be a really solid player, with a pretty high floor, also with an admittedly limited ceiling.

I think this is going to be one of those years where the panther "brain trust" falls in love with some guy to take at #8 and I bet he will not be ANY of the players mentioned in this thread so far.

I think Collin is correct that if Fournette is gone they'll take Barnett. Which isn't bad at all in my opinion. There's a couple of guys I would prefer, but we could certainly do (and have done) a lot worse.

Barnett definitely shows up consistently, from what I've seen. That doesn't guarantee that he'll have a good NFL career, but he certainly brings it from play to play.
