What a bad pick. They didn't take the best player available, and it's highly debateable if they even took the best QB avaialble.

There is at least a 50/50 chance that Newton will be out of the league in 5 years. Those are bad numbers to bet on with a #1 pick.

The fact that they didn't have one trade offer tells you how shitty this first pick was so they should have found a player that was clearly the best at their position and gone with it based on need. It would have given them a higher probability of selecting a productive, impact player.

In other news, we put a man on the moon.

We've been concerned this was going to hapen ever since Luck decided to return to Stanford. Welcome to 2011.

I'd say NO and ATL still have five good years left in their runs, and Tampa is on the up and up. I don't completely hate the pick. Not a Newton fan in the least, but if it means i don't have to see that f@ggot Jimmy Clausen on the field for an extended period of time, I'll take it. Fuck it, I'd take Dukey.

I am trying to be optimistic about Cam Newton. Newton reminds me of Donovan McNabb. Donovan ran the option at Syracuse and, with a year as an understudy, he was able to use his lower-body strength and exceptional athletic ability to dominate in Philadelphia for over a decade. They never won a super bowl, but McNabb took them to what, 5 NFC championship games and 1 superbowl? If I remember correctly, very similar things were said about McNabb entering the 1999 draft: He's a mobile quarterback with great athleticism, but needs a little work on accuracy. I think it worked out pretty well for Philadelphia.

Yeah I think we have to put our faith in our coaching staff now and hope they can teach Killa Cam.

McNabb was a hard worker and had a great attitude. Newton is an entertainer and an icon.

That's one approach. Another would be to draft a guy who might excite some parts of the fan base, even if it's a clueless part. That'll put butts in seats at least for the short term.:greedy:
