I know it may be too early to judge the last two years in the draft and I know this has been mentioned in the past, but I didn't realize that it was this bad. 16 drafts and only 7 All-pro players drafted.....ouch.

Steve Smith should have been one in 2005.

These aren't the years they were All-Pro, just the year they were drafted.

we haven't had that many high first rounders - 2 in Capers' time, none with Seifert, 2 with Fox. That plays a factor, especially the squandered picks with Capers.

Or the past two years when we didn't have one? I would think if you draft well, you would hope for at least a 50/50 chance that your 1st rounder would be an All-Pro regardless of where they were drafted in that round.

I'd say that there's definitely a diminishing return on how far from #1 the average All Pro is.

And the better a team drafts the greater that teams chance to have pro-bowl players would be as well. The more successful teams would have normally drafted lower in each round than the Panthers, but obviously had more Pro-Bowl players on average. There are several factors, which you named one, but just seems the Panthers haven't done that well in this department. How long has Hurney been around?

Seems like we should have had more than that over 15 years. I guess it points to how average our drafting has been (average being generous). Hurney has made a few nice picks but I think that Edwards deal is going to stick with him quite awhile. I really don't understand why if Fox was let go for not being consistent that Hurney is still around. Why couldn't we have raided the Patriots for a new GM like the Chiefs and Falcons did. Gotta be better than what we have.

Yep, I got to thinking about what Magnus said, so I did a little research on the better teams since the Panthers have been around just to see how those teams stack up with the 1st draft.

Ok, so since the Panthers have been drafting here is a break down of where they drafted during the 1st round compared to more successful teams during that time span who would have typically drafted lower unless they pulled off some trades to improve which we don't even want to talk about what the Panthers have done.

    Panthers
    4 picks between 1-10
    5 picks between 11-20
    7 picks between 21-32

    New England
    2 picks between 1-10
    3 picks between 11-20
    11 picks between 21-32

    Indy
    2 picks between 1-10
    4 picks between 11-20
    8 picks between 21-32

    Philly
    3 picks between 1-10
    6 picks between 11-20
    5 picks between 21-32

    NYG
    3 picks between 1-10
    6 picks between 11-20
    6 picks between 21-32

    Pitt
    1 picks between 1-10
    6 picks between 11-20
    9 picks between 21-32

So with a scale of 1 point per pick in the top tier, 2 points per pick for the middle tier and 3 points per pick of the bottom tier, then divide by number of picks this is how the Panthers stacked up.

    Philly 2.14
    Panthers 2.19
    NYG 2.2
    Indy 2.43
    Pitt 2.5
    NE 2.75

So only Philly had better draft position in the first round than the Panthers. But you are damn right, I want to know what in the hell those fuckers have going on in NE, they get it done no matter what come draft day.

Now we have had more All-Pros than what I listed, these are just ones that we drafted, not players we traded for, etc.
